How to Choose Your Lace Size

Once you've decided between Custom, Canvas, or Half Wigs, the next question is usually: how much lace do I actually want to manage?

It's one of the most important decisions you'll make when choosing a unit — and it has nothing to do with which size is "best." It's entirely about how you like to wear your hair, how much maintenance fits your lifestyle, and how much styling freedom you actually need day to day.

Here's how to think it through.

Start with your parting

If you mostly wear a middle part, you have the most flexibility — almost every lace size can give you a clean, natural-looking middle part.

If you prefer a side part, the size of your lace becomes much more important, since side parts expose more of the lace itself. The deeper the side part you want, the more coverage you'll need.

Your lace size options

2x6  The easiest to maintain. Because it's narrow and elongated, it's also the perfect solution if you usually wear a middle part "leave out" or styles that sit behind the natural hairline. It's especially recommended for gym-goers, students, and anyone with a demanding schedule who doesn't have a lot of time to spend maintaining lace day to day. Best suited to middle-part styles.

5x5 A slightly larger, square lace piece. It gives you a bit more room to move your part around the crown than the 2x6, while still being low-maintenance and easy to manage. A solid all-rounder if you want a touch more flexibility without taking on much extra upkeep.

6x6 Our most recommended size, especially for beginners. It's still easy to manage day-to-day, but the extra parting space gives you a genuinely versatile finish that doesn't look "wiggy" — even with a side part due the deeper parting space. This is one of our two glueless sweet-spot sizes, and it's the safe, go-to pick if you're not sure where to start.

7x7 Alongside the 6x6, this is the other glueless sweet spot. It works beautifully across nearly every style — middle part, side part, beginner or experienced wearer — giving you a strong balance of styling freedom and manageability without becoming difficult to maintain.

9x6 This size opens things up further, giving you more room across the front hairline for deeper side parts and more natural movement. It can be worn glueless, but on more active days, a light adhesive spray is recommended to keep everything secure. More freedom means slightly more upkeep.

13x6 Our largest option, offering near ear-to-ear coverage. This gives you the most styling freedom of all — think deep side parts, slicked-back styles, or even pulling your unit into a ponytail. With that much lace exposed, it does require the most maintenance, so it tends to suit those with a bit more wig experience under their belt.

How to decide

Ask yourself two questions:

How much styling freedom do I actually want? If you rarely change your part or mostly stick to one style, you likely don't need the largest lace size available.

How much lace am I realistically going to maintain? If you love switching up your parting, wearing deeper side parts, or changing your style into half up half downs week to week, the extra coverage of a 9x6 or 13x6 may be worth the extra care.

If you're going glueless: 6x6 and 7x7 are your most reliable, low-fuss options. 9x6 can absolutely be worn glueless too — just keep a light adhesive spray on hand for particularly active days.

If you're buying your first unit and simply want a safe, easy choice: go with a 6x6. It's manageable, versatile, and won't leave you overwhelmed with upkeep while you're still finding your routine.
